CONVERSE TAPS FRAGMENT DESIGN FOR WEAPON COLLABORATION

The Converse Weapon was first introduced on the basketball court in 1986, and it forged a connection to teams, games, and individuals that love the culture. A community formed that embraced the Weapon, although the silhouette was only available for two years. Converse has long been rooted in communities—across basketball, sport, music, and art.  So, for the Weapon, Converse once again starts with the communities we serve, allowing the next generation of creatives to discover it for themselves. Marrying a streetwear trailblazer with a pioneering silhouette, Converse introduces the most authentic modern take on the Weapon, in partnership with Hiroshi Fujiwara and fragment design.

“As I was looking for a shoe to work on with Converse, I immediately thought the Weapon would be good for me. It’s a classic shoe I used to wear in my childhood,” said Fujiwara.  “I thought about trying different colour blocks, but I ended up going with the current design to pay homage to the iconic shoe.”

The resulting execution stays authentic to both fragment’s signature aesthetic and the Weapon’s original form. In true fragment style, the capsule delivers a minimalistic approach that emphasises its classic, sport royal blue and black colour blocking scheme—a palette reserved for only the most sought-after silhouettes.

Featuring a full leather upper, the Converse x FRGMT Weapon’s color-blocking lands along the Y-bar, collar underlay, Star Chevron logo underlay, and the toe box. A fragment Design logo is debossed on the lateral heel cap, underscoring the design house’s signature understated branding. Keeping true to the silhouette’s original form, a leather woven tongue features an original Converse Weapon-branded label and terry cloth lining. The complementary apparel capsule is comprised of a wool varsity jacket, french terry hoodie, and two loose fit jersey tees, befitting of fragment’s sport-inspired intention.

The Converse x FRGMT Weapon and apparel capsule will be available in a limited global release on Converse.com and select retail partners beginning May 11, 2023.
