Interview by SOPHIE EMMETT

Hiya, how are you today?

I’m good, today I am feeling hopeful and excited! I am self aware of who I am and where I want to be!

Talk us through the development of your first EP, Aura?

The development of AURA was fun, eventful and beautiful, honestly. Not only was I developing an EP, but I was learning how to develop myself. I feel like I began making songs that felt more like me along the way of creating this project. I put out a couple singles throughout creating AURA, but I feel like each song got closer to who I wanted to be and who I want to become.

Can you describe your sound in 3 words?

Warm, creative, and euphoric.

Name the track that reveals the most about who you are as an artist?

I would definitely have to say Pure. This song is a reflection of the energy I want people to receive when listening to my music. It’s soft and delicate and the lyrics speak to the mindset and energy I operate in.

You also enjoy film making and have directed some of your own videos, do you have one that your most proud of?

I love this question. Weight of the World is one of the videos I’m most proud of because it wasn’t about me at all. It was about me appreciating the beauty in Black men, and it was a way for me to show my love in a visual form. I really got to step into my Director bag and not have to worry about looking nice or getting dressed up- it was about making sure I captured the beauty that was around me. The world can be so unkind to Black men, so it was important to me that I made a body of work to let them know how loved they truly are.

In starting your own Film company “Young Movie Makers Of America” what was your biggest factor in wanting to create this?

My biggest factor in creating Young Movie Makers of America was that I wanted to give the kids a high quality experience when it came to the film world. My passion for film is rooted deeply in me- and I felt called upon to give young children the opportunity to explore mediums like directing, interviewing, and engaging with sound/lighting equipment so that they could tell their own stories through film.

So far what has been the most rewarding aspect of this venture, into film making?

The most rewarding aspect of my venture is when people look into my eyes and tell me how healing my music is for them. It makes me really happy because I wouldn’t want to put out anything that doesn’t make people feel good. To know that people find my music just as healing as I do is definitely the most rewarding feeling as an artist.

What can we expect from you in 2023?

I’m excited for 2023. I’m ready to explore what’s outside of my comfort zone and continue stepping into who I am as The Moon: as an artist, a creative, and a director. I definitely want to meet and connect with my fans who are outside of LA, too. I’ll be collaborating with more artists, producers, and instrumentalists, forsure. 2023 will definitely see an album from me.
