Interview by SOPHIE EMMETT
Hey Morgan, how was your weekend?
My weekend was busy but good! Had 2x shows and caught up with family friends!
CONGRATULATIONS ON DROPPING YOUR NEWEST SINGLE “FRESH START” LAST WEEK, WOULD LOVE TO KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT THE
THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS SONG?
This song is about reconnecting with someone and realising that they are the right person for you, it just wasn’t the right time before. So this song is like the bid to get them back…
SO AS WE START THE COUNT DOWN TO A NEW YEAR, WHATS YOUR PLAN FOR A “FRESH START” COME 2025?
Hmmm, I think I’m already starting my new year in November tbh with the single drop haha. I don’t really have a big plan, I just want to be organised and 10 steps ahead at all times!
How do you approach songwriting do you start with lyrics, melody, or a concept?
I think, I always have a concept in my head, then when I'm ready to write. I mostly have a vibe I’m feeling depending on my mood, and so I bounce through beats until I find one that fits that vibe and then go from there with melodies and lyrics.
Do you find that your personal life or emotions influence your music more, or does your music help you process personal experiences?
Yes definitely my personal life and emotions influence my music. I feel like your environment, your interactions, emotions, all of that infects or inspires the music you make personally. If I’m going through a rough period or a happy period I tend to write along those those lines, or express those emotions/situations through my songs.
You've been on fire with performances lately! What's been your favourite one, and where's your dream stage to hit next?
Thank you! I actually really love the stripped back sets, I find I can really get in my zone more and connect with the crowd, those ones are always my faves! I don’t have a dream stage you know, I’m happy to go anywhere with good quality tech and a great sound engineer haha.
"The toughest hurdle I think is just to keep going to be honest, continuing to believe in yourself and motivate yourself when you don’t have anyone to do that or support you on the journey. Essentially, it can be very lonely at times, which makes it even more rewarding when you get those career highlights and progressions that you’ve worked so hard towards.”
— MORGAN MUNROE, ON THE HURDLES & REWARDS OF BEING AN INDEPENDENT ARTIST
As the R&B queen, if you could pick any dream duet partner for a love ballad, who would it be?
A love balladdd, probably Jasmine Sulivan!
Is there a tune perfectly captures your love life right now?
Guidance - Jhene Aiko (The piano version though!)
What's the most memorable live performance you've had thus far?
I think my performance highlight has to be appearing on the Ghetts album tour, that was an incredible experience! Happened very quickly and out of the blue! So to be completely honest, it was an absolutely honour to be asked to join him on stage and that's the biggest venue cap I’ve done so far (5000 cap) !!!
You've got a lot happening, but are there any more surprises for 2025?
A few surprises yesss, don’t wanna speak too soon, but I have some exciting things in the pipeline and lots more new music!
