INTRODUCING: CARINA
London Teenage sensation Carina shares her latest single ‘Skew Wiff’, the follow-up track to ‘Waste Me Away’. Using her music as a cathartic tool in dealing with her mental health battles, this song comes as another nod to being introspective in counselling and narrating difficult times in one’s life through thought-provoking, reflective and relatable lyrics.
Tirade World chats with Carina about the new release, how she goes about songwriting, performing and what else she’s working on in 2023!
Hi Carina, how are you today?
Heya, I am good thanks! I just did a little shoot for my youtube channel, currently in need of some tea. However, having an overall good start to my week and looking forward to the rest of it.
You're new song Skew Wiff dropped today, set the mood for us, where and how do you recommend we listen to it?
I would recommend you listen to it wearing a puffer jacket or a big coat, with your headphones in! Whilst you’re walking somewhere, it’s one to get you dancing in the street!
You’ve been performing a fair bit recently, what’s your favourite track to perform live?
A Fav track of mine to perform is ‘Frontin’, an old song of mine but it’s such a bop! I also love both ‘No Use’ and ‘Visual Changes.’ Stuff with energy goes hard, I’m such an energetic queen and I love to just bop about!

CARINA - SKEW WIFF
You described the song ‘Waste me away’ as a personal track that you’ve been sitting on for a while. What is it about now that made it, the time to release it?
Well to be brutally honest, previously I was busy in school, and didn’t have a lot of time to be putting out music, so I think the fact I’ve sat with it for over 2 years and still really like the song is a good omen, for it is the debut single for this new era!
Can you describe your songwriting process?
Normally I come up with an idea when I am out and about or in the shower or something. Then it just happens and I write it! I write songs constantly so it feels like a normal part of my life! I don’t even think about it, it just happens. I have a project I am doing this year, where I am writing a song a month on my Youtube channel - so go and check it out!
Your most popular song on Spotify is ‘Skets & Stoners’What about this song makes it so popular in your opinion?
It’s quite an asccinct song in the sense that it’s about a very specific situation which I think we’ve all been in before, and I think that makes it an accessible song. We’ve all been sober at a house party before where everyone else isn’t. Personally, it’s one of my least favourite songs, but I do still like it and am proud of my younger self for it if that makes sense? I made it when I was 15 and would never have guessed it would go that far!
How were you discovered, and what aspect of being a singer-songwriter are you enjoying the most?
I started writing songs very young (12) and throughout my teenage years that was my hobby + craft that I pursued while I wasn’t at school. I wanted to show people that it was something I took seriously, so when I was 16, I put out the original Spaceout ep and it did quite well for a random 16-year-old’s bedroom demos. My manager Julian came across me, he works for the record company Don’t Sleep and asked me if I wanted to do a re-release deal for this project, so we put out the updated version two years later. Now I’ve got a new project on the way and have big goals for myself, I love playing shows and sharing my music! I hate everything else lol, social media can actually die in a hole.
You’re vibe reminds me of Cat Power, can you tell me about your musical influencers?
I listened to Joan Armatratrading growing up as well as George Ezra, but every time I get into a new project or phase of life - I have different preferences that I am pulling from. For Space out! I loved the immersive soul music of Lausse The Cat, Bel Cobain etc. For this new project, I was into Domminc Fike, Still Woozy, and Indie/Alt beats - it’s always changing!
What more can we expect from you in 2023?
I’m excited, and grateful to the fans for the love and support so far but this is just the beginning of greater things to come!
