Run Star Trainer with London-based nail artist Angel My Linh fronting the campaign

Converse has just dropped a fresh pair of kicks - the Run Star Trainer! A blast from the past with a modern twist, perfect for folks who dig style, freedom, and cozy feet. Leading the charge in the campaign is Angel My Linh, a South East Londoner with Vietnamese roots, bringing all the vibes AS A CREATIVE NAIL ARTIST.

hI aNGEL, HOW ARE YOU TODAY?

Hey, i’m all good! Enjoying the sun whilst it lasts!

On that note, As we are having such an interesting summer(weather wise) here in London, hows yours been and do you have any trips planned

I’ve actually just come back from Japan which was really fun but even hotter and humid. I have a few work trips planned next month which will be exciting.

You're known for your interesting nail art, how did you get into this?

My first intro into doing nail art was when I was about 9 years old and I would spend my break times at school painting different designs and cartoon characters on my teachers nails. Every week we had a new theme for nail designs.

Who has been the most exciting client thus far, to create a design for?

My most exciting client has probably been Megan Thee Stallion as I ended up doing her European leg of her world tour. That experience as a whole was really exciting as it was my first time on tour with an artist.

You've also just become the creative who Is the face of Converse's new silhouette named the Run Star Trainer, which is exciting! How did this come about?

My job is usually behind the scenes so it was cool to be on the flip slide, especially when it’s celebrating my work as a creative. Honestly, i’m not sure how it came about, i’m just happy to be here lol

I remember when I was younger I was obsessed with the converse high tops in red. My family were not well off.. but my mum always managed to get me what I wanted and I remember her coming home with a second-hand pair of the red high tops and I loved them. They were the first ever pair of “cool” trainers I got.”

How does it feel to be representing this new converse style?

From saving enough money from my weekend job at the family nail salon so I could buy a pair of converses, to now being the face of their new silhouette is pretty cool. 15 year old me wouldn’t believe it !!

If you were to create a design to celebrate this new converse style, what would the design look like?

I would probably try to sculpt the converse trainer directly onto the nail. A teeny tiny miniature sculpture on the nail.

What do you think is going to be the next big trend when it comes to nail art?

I think the next big trend in nail art will be stripes/pattern prints. Sounds pretty basic but I think we’ll be incorporating more classic stripes in different colour ways or even gingham and tartan style patterns on nails.

I feel like you are always exploring different mediums, in terms of textures to create a 3D affect or even recently using fur on nails. Describe your creative process?

I love playing around with different textures and mediums on nails. I usually start by creating moodboards from visuals that I see either physically in books/artworks/fashion/furniture or on online platforms like Pinterest. From there i’m trying to figure out how to translate the moodboards onto nails and incorporating the different textures onto the nail too.

Hailing from south london, what are you’re go to spots for food, fashion and to catch a vibe?

South East London born and raised! My favourite spots for food would be Morleys on Deptford High st (specifically this location) and Eat Vietnam which is also in Deptford. As for fashion and a vibe you can’t really go wrong with Peckham, theres always something going on there.

Whats happening next with you? I have many things in the works that I can’t say yet but i’ve recently launched a new press on nails business for my practical babes that still want to look cute on a budget or aren’t in London but still want their nails done by me.
